Matteo Goffriller was the most important violin maker in Venice during this period. His work is greatly varied, and generally of a high artistic level. His cellos are highly sought after by musicians. This instrument is very close to Pablo Casals’ – the were both made using a model inspired by Stradivarius was very straight C-bouts, and superb proportions and lines. The scroll was made by D. Montagnana during the same period and is probably this instrument’s original scroll. It has a very pure tone, was a mixture of strength and an extremely rich voice.
